There will be 3 categories of tacos that contestants may enter: a. Protein – Fish, seafood, pork, beef, chicken b. Vegetarian – Vegetables, plant-based foods c. Special – Dessert, scrapple, breakfast or other creative ingredients that don’t fit in first two categories
BRING IT ON!! EVERYONE can compete with each other
First place, by judges, in each of the three categories will win $200 each plus a trophy. There will be a Best in Show Taco that would win an additional $200. The People’s Choice winner will win $100. One contestant could potentially win $500 total.
CONTEST RULES
The cook-off is open for anyone to enter. Entries will be judged by guest judges and the public.
Judges will not know who made any of the dishes until after all judging is completed.
*Contestants must register by September 5, 2022
*Recipes must be provided by September 5, 2022
All Contestants must make 5 judges portions and as many samples as they want - They receive $2 for each purchase token recieved.
*ALL Contestants must be in the cooking/sampling tent no later than 2:00PM. Judging will start at 3:00PM and will go in order of arrival aproxximately 5 minutes apart
- September 10th, 2022
- Event is Noon to 5PM
- Taco Cook-off is from 2:30 – 5:00PM
- 1. All contestants must bring all of their own food, supplies and cooking/cooling equipment.
- 2. Health and safety precautions must be maintained from transportation of product to the event and during the event.
- 3. Judges have the right to disqualify contestant(s) if the meat (steak, pork, carne asada), poultry or fish smell or look tainted and/or spoiled.
- 4. The contestant or team may cook as many tacos as they wish and will be able to “sell to the public during the Taco cook-off hours, but only one (1) taco per judge is to be presented for judging and there will be 3-5 judges (you will know that day how many).
- 5. There will be 3 categories of tacos that contestants may enter:
- a. Protein – Fish, seafood, pork, beef, chicken
- b. Vegetarian – Vegetables, plant-based foods
- c. Special – Dessert, scrapple, breakfast or other creative ingredients that don’t fit in first two categories.
- 6. The public will have a token that they can exchange for a taco from whatever contestants they want based on the amount of taco tokens they buy. Contestants will receive $2 per token collected during the cook-off hours after the conclusion of the event. Contestants will need to bring their collected tokens to organizers after the conclusion of the event to collect a check. If you collect 200 tokens, you will exchange them for a check for $400
- 7. Taco tokens will be sold in batches – in advance for 2022 only 3 tacos $10 at event 3 tacos $12
- 8. Contestants will have a chance to win Trophies and cash prizes too.
- 9. for 2022 First place by judges will be $500 each plus a trophy. The People’s Choice winner will win $100. 2022 will have a smaller number of contestants. One trophy awarded even if entered as a team.
- 10. Judging will be done by a panel of 3-5 judges by blind tasting. They will not know what contestant has made what taco. Judge’s decisions are final.
- 11. Judging will be based on Taste 60 points; Originality 20; Presentation 15; Aroma: 5 points.
- 12. ALL TACOS MUST BE PREPARED AND READY TO BE JUDGED BY 3:00PM. NO EXCEPTIONS
